Reuters was first to report on U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement on Monday of a complete ceasefire between Israel and Iran, potentially ending the 12-day war that saw millions flee Tehran and prompted fears of further escalation in the war-torn region. Reuters beat the competition by 19 seconds with the news, which Trump announced in a post on Truth Social. Markets reacted favorably to the news. S&P 500 futures rose 0.4% late on Monday, and U.S. crude futures fell in early Asian trading hours on Tuesday to their lowest level in more than a week, relieving worries of supply disruption in the region. On Tuesday, Trump said that both Israel and Iran violated the ceasefire and told reporters he was unhappy with both sides, but particularly frustrated with Israel, which he said had “unloaded” shortly after agreeing to the deal.
